Eye & Vision Exams

Eye & Vision Exams in College Station

It can be all too easy to find reasons for postponing routine medical care such as physicals, dental appointments and eye exams. But regular eye and vision evaluations are extremely important, even if you think you're seeing fine or that your previous lens prescription is still holding up adequately. Many refractive errors can slowly worsen without your being aware of it, while eye diseases often show no symptoms until permanent vision loss has already occurred. That's why our optometrist at Crystal Vision Center, Dr. Brice, urges everyone to get an annual or semi-annual eye exam and vision test.

Eye and Vision Evaluations: An Essential Element of Eye Care

A comprehensive eye exam gives us a detailed picture of what's going on inside your eye. Our eye doctor makes use of state-of-the-art tools and techniques to check for potentially serious eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and a variety of different retinal conditions. Eye dilation is necessary for careful retinal examination. By enlarging your pupils, eye dilation allows us to see a much large area at the back of the eye, where diseases such as macular degeneration occur. A technique known as tonometry lets us measure the pressure inside your eye; a reading above a certain level can alert us to possible glaucoma. Slit-lamp examination can reveal diseases and disorders toward the front of the eye. The sooner these issues are discovered, the earlier and more effectively they can treated -- possibly saving your future eyesight.

Eye function testing is another important part of comprehensive eye care, especially for babies and small children whose eyes are still learning how to cooperate with their brain to produce vision. we will evaluate how well your eyes "team" (move in unison), focus on objects and line up with each other, and whether one eye is dominant over the other eye. Many of these issues can be corrected through visual therapy and other methods.

Vision testing is our primary means of detecting and measuring refractive errors -- those all-too-common conditions such as nearsightedness, astigmatism, farsightedness and (later in life) presbyopia that cause blurred vision. Eye charts indicate how clearly you can make out objects of various size at a simulated distance of 20 feet. If you're having trouble, our eye doctor can use an instrument known as a phoropter to see which combinations of corrections yield optimal vision. We then use this data to write a prescription for corrective lenses such as eyeglasses or contact lenses (including multifocals), which are available in our optical store.

Reviews From Our Satisfied Patients

  • "We use Anderson Optometry for all of our family’s vision needs. Recently, we had to have our youngest fitted for new glasses and he made the experience fun for her and informative for us. We know Dr. Anderson will always take good care of our family’s eye care and that’s why we wouldn’t go to anywhere else."

  • "Dr. Anderson and his staff are so patient and friendly. Dr. Anderson prescribed me glasses and I had the toughest time picking out frames. They didn’t rush, but instead made helpful suggestions and now I have an awesome pair of frames, not to mention the fact that I can see ten times better than before. You guys are the best!"
